Hall of Fame: Deidre Thomas

One of the things I enjoy most as a coach is recognizing athletes who are putting in the work and showing consistent progress in their racing. That’s exactly what the Hall of Fame section of the Utmost Performance blog is about—highlighting athletes who are showing commitment, growth, and strong performances in competition.

For this installment, we’re recognizing Deidre Thomas, who rides for Velo South Racing, after a very strong showing at the Lago Vista race weekend.

A Consistent Weekend at Lago Vista

Lago Vista is one of the more challenging race weekends in the Texas calendar. The terrain around Lake Travis in the Hill Country creates races that are rarely straightforward.

One of the unique things about the event is that the course is run in two different directions across the weekend, which creates two very different styles of racing.

Saturday’s course tends to favor riders who are strong on rolling terrain—those who can handle repeated changes in pitch and power. Sunday, however, typically favors riders with stronger climbing ability, as the climbs become longer and more sustained.

That’s what makes Deidre’s performance particularly impressive.

She was able to deliver two third-place finishes, one on Saturday and another on Sunday, showing that she could handle both styles of racing across the weekend.

Consistency like that doesn’t happen by accident.

The Work Behind the Results

Strong race results are often the product of a lot of quiet work behind the scenes.

Deidre has been putting in the time, focusing on improvement, and approaching her development with the kind of mindset that allows athletes to keep progressing. Racing weekends like Lago Vista are where that work starts to show.

Finishing on the podium on back-to-back days demonstrates not only fitness, but also the determination to keep pushing forward and continue improving.

That hunger to get better is one of the most important qualities an athlete can have.

Recognition in the Hall of Fame

The Utmost Performance Hall of Fame exists to recognize athletes who are showing dedication to their craft and putting together performances worth highlighting.

Deidre’s consistency and determination at Lago Vista make her a perfect example of the type of athlete we want to celebrate here.

Deidre Thomas—welcome to the Utmost Performance Hall of Fame. 🚴‍♀️👏
